Buying A Birdhouse? Here's What To Keep In Mind

By Gene Wolf

Do you like the calls of birds in your backyard early in the morning or towards the end of the day when you've had a rough day at work? Most people do. Whether you live in an apartment or own your own home a birdhouse is a great way of attracting these colorful songsters to your home. Just like anything else though you should be making an informed purchase. Many birds look for specific things before using a birdhouse as their home and many birdhouse builders do not take these preferences into consideration. If you don't make an informed decision you may end up greatly disappointed with the birds that occupy the house you purchased. So, just what kind of qualities does a bird look for in a birdhouse?

Just like any growing family the size of the home is important. In this case floor space. Too little and the birds you're trying to attract won't use it because they instinctively realize the developing birds would be too crowded. Too much floor space and the building of the nest will be too time consuming and they're probably bypass the house to nest somewhere else. A good birdhouse will be designed for a specific species of bird and that includes the floor space available for their particular nest.

The second quality of a birdhouse is the height of the entrance hole above the floor. Too high and it would be difficult for the baby birds to get to the hole to leave the nest. Too close to the floor and this invites predators to attack the eggs and the young chicks. Birds can be very picky about the distance the entry hole is above the floor.

Almost everyone has seen a neighborhood cat stalking a bird. Many do not see the same cat or a squirrel making an attack on a nest. Another important aspect for selecting a home for many bird species is how well it will protect eggs and young birds from predators. Flimsy, thin walls that are typical of many cheap birdhouses give little protection from a determined cat or squirrel. When selecting a birdhouse for the birds you want to attract select one that is sturdy and well built. Think about the birdhouse you're looking at and picture that neighborhood cat trying to get at the young birds. Will it stand up?

Maybe the most important aspect of a birdhouse, and one most purchasers and builders seem to completely ignore, is the size of the entrance hole. Yes, many birds will use a home with a larger entrance than they prefer. That's just the point though. Other birds can use it and some do. Many nesting spots are taken over by aggressive species because they can get into the home. While a perfectly sized entrance cannot eliminate this behavior in other birds it can certainly reduce the frequency. If you have attracted the birds you want to your yard the last thing you want to see is them driven off by another species because the entrance hole was too large. - 32194

One of the biggest reason most hunters put away the binoculars is because they are uncomfortable. This is especially true when you are zipping around on the ATV. Your binoculars harness will keep them from swinging, plus gets the weight off your neck. You'll be spreading the weight across more points of your body, making the binoculars feel light, and comfortable.

Delicious Tastes For Wild Birds

By Ethan O. Tanner

Wild birds, similar to humans, have particular preferences for what they eat. Identify what your feathered friends favor at their feeding station. An intelligent selection of bird treats along with adequate cover will attract a wide array of bird species.

Each and every wild bird has its own favorite meals, but the popular sunflower seeds are known to be the favorite among seed-eater birds. This is important information for bird enthusiasts who may want to attract a variety of wild birds to their backyard feeders. This explains why sunflower seed is the major ingredient in wild bird seed mixes.

There are many types of wild bird seed mixes for bird feeding, but the majority of mixing are not a favorite amid wild birds. There are three main hints for buying wild bird seed. The first tip is to look at the label. In present times, smart shoppers look at the food labels before purchasing it for their homes. Likewise, labels should be considered when purchasing seed mixes.

If you hope to bring different kinds of wild birds to your feeders, avoid wild bird mixes in which oats, cereals and/or "mixed grains" are present. Most wild birds reject these foods. An additional tip is to avoid fillers like the mixed grains. Some bird seed mixtures contain "filler" seeds, which make the bag more full, but commonly end up uneaten under your bird feeder since birds eat what they enjoy, and plainly put, it's not "fillers."

Birds often brush their bills through their seed and ditch the ones they don't desire or they dislike on to the ground. Even ground-feeding birds may dismiss the spilled seed. The last pointer in purchasing wild bird seed is to pick out clean bags of food.

Most bird seed is 94 to 95 percent clean, which may sound pretty clean, but a 40-pound bag of seed may include over two pounds of inedible material, which means more debris that will find its way to the ground. Some vendors are required to sift the bird seed three times to remove any empty shells, sticks, leaves and other debris which is commonly found in other vendors' seed bags.

I hope you find this information helpful to you. In your quest to fill your bird feeders look for feed mixes that contain clean mixes without an excessive amount of filler. These are the basic tips on what your wild birds want and prefer. Take these three simple steps in consideration next time you purchase your wild bird seed and take notice at the increase in wild birds feeding at your feeders. - 32194

By Bart Icles

Bird watching and hunting are two of the most popular activities that people do outdoors and what better way to enjoy these activities but with the help of great optics. It makes a lot of difference to bring a good pair of binoculars with while bird watching and hunting and the last thing you would want to happen is to drop your precious optical equipment. This is only one of the many reasons why you would want to get the best binocular harness or strapping system available.

To most people, one binocular harness system is no different from another. And this is where they are wrong because it makes a big difference to get the best strapping system for your outdoor optical equipment. You can select the best harness system based on different factors. Because when it comes to the care for outdoor optics, you should not settle for anything less than what you believe is the best.

One of the most important things that you should consider is to get a binocular harness system that does more than just carrying your pair of binoculars. It must also be able to carry other optical equipment, like your digital camera. This simply means that you should get something that should be functional, aside from something that looks nice.

It also helps to find a binocular harness system that allows you to take off the weight from your neck so you can feel more comfortable. Another factor that you might be interested in is a harness system's ability to prevent your optical equipment from swinging around as you walk on trails or as you jump over ditches or as you climb on tree branches. In this way, you can be assured that your optics are kept safe from being dropped and from being battered or beaten by random objects as they dangle around your neck.

Other features you might want to see in a binocular harness system include adjustable straps for sizing and tension. This will allow you to adjust the system so you can feel comfortable while wearing it. You should also select one that is made of durable materials and one that is made to last. Your harness system must be durable and sturdy so you will not have to worry about accidentally dropping your equipment. - 32194

Great Information On Backyard Birding

By Willie Rivera

Backyard birding can be enjoyable and soothing. The wildlife in one's yard can be incredible together with numerous different types of birds flying in and out on a consistent basis. A rewarding spare time interest can be had by just about all who have an interest in lodging close to home. You may find it useful to begin watching out for the different types of birds which fly into your backyard. Several are way more common compared to others. If you are interested in digital photography, then these incredible subjects will provide you several occasions to record their beauty with a camera or mpeg recorder.

Feeding the birds is a really pleasurable and rewarding hobby. You'll get to observe many varieties as well as become familiarised with several of the surprising routines of the birds which frequent your back yard. You'll only need to supply the birds with food, shelter and water in order to get the maximum enjoyment out of the year round spare time pursuit of backyard birding.

Food availableness is a must to have birds on a regular basis. Dependent on just what part of the country you are in, nearly all will have success with seed bird feeders which are offered in a safe location and at least 15 feet from adjoining trees and shrubs. The kind of seeds offered will also depend on your locale and kind of environment. I've found a combo of black oil sunflower, Niger thistle and premium mix bird seed will usually draw a greater range of the local wild birds to your backyard feeding station.

Water can be provided in a range of methods for your backyard birding undertaking. If you are sufficiently lucky to have a natural stream or stream in or next to your own back yard, this is all that is needed. On the other hand, most of us aren't that lucky and a simple pedestal bird bath with water offered and maintained will accomplish the job. In places where the chilly winter months freeze the water in ordinary bird baths, a portable and submersible water heater could be required to provide constant water availableness. In summer time, a simple dripping hose into a bird bath is just impossible to resist to your yard birds.

The birds in your yard ought to feel secure when they're at your yard feeder. This protection is offered by nearby shrubs or trees. ( although as mentioned earlier, your feeder shouldn't be closer than 15 feet to the nearest shrub or underbrush. ) This is to prevent an unwelcome ambush by a cat or hawk which usually is making use of this cover to stalk the birds.

In case you supply these basic needs to the birds in your yard you'll have a lot of enjoyable days of observing the escapades, habits and colourful appearances of the backyard birding world.

Together with a bit of effort, regardless of whether you have got a small or large backyard, you can observe as well as attract many different types of birds for you to get pleasure from, frequently throughout the year. It could be an eye-opening experience to bother to sit back and indulge in the elegance which flies into and also out of your yard.

Once the birds slipped comfortable along with your backyard birding feeding station, you may want to supply additional advantages such as planting categorical plants that the birds both use as protection and food such as Sunflowers, Cone flowers, Shasta daisys as well as additional suet feeders. - 32194

Penguins Make Perfect Mascots for Your Bank Checks

By Alan Plastin

Everybody loves penguins! And why not? Penguins are loyal, cute, cuddly looking, and funny-not to mention all the hard work they go to for their young. If you are looking for a way to make your bank checks more interesting then you might want to consider purchasing penguin checks. Ordering them is very easy when you do it online, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Penguins are a group of birds that, while they are good swimmers, are unable to fly. They live in a very harsh environment and their bodies are made exclusively for survival. When they dive into the water, for example, their wings turn into flippers. Although the largest species are the Emperor penguins, they still only reach about 4 feet tall. However, in the prehistoric times, some were as tall and heavy as present day humans! Back then, they didn't all live in the Antarctic regions, either.

You have several options when it comes to penguin checks. Your main options are the Defenders of Wildlife Penguin checks, Penguin Pals checks, Penguin Parade checks, and even matching accessories like address labels and checkbook covers.

The Penguin Parade checks feature a family of penguins, hanging out in the snow. These checks show Emperor penguins in their natural habitat in the Arctic Circle. It actually looks as though they are having a real conversation, and they probably are. You can also purchase coordinating address labels to go along with these checks.

If you purchase the Defenders of Wildlife penguin checks then you know that you are helping an organization that is dedicated to the protection of wild animals in their natural habitats. Their programs help encourage the safeguarding of ecosystems and habitats. The checks come with 4 rotating images which means that each check that you write will be different from the last. With thee, you can also purchase coordinating address labels, contact cards, and a matching checkbook cover as well.

The Penguin Pals penguin series has 4 attractive images of penguins in their natural habitat. From moving images of parental affection to groups of hip young penguins, the images on these checks capture the enthralling antics of these fascinating creatures that dwell in a cruel environment.

With the Penguin Pals checks, you can also purchase matching address labels which can really spruce up your envelopes-especially at Christmastime when you are sending out cards. A matching address cover can be bought, too, that shows a gang of young penguins, seemingly smiling directly at the camera.

In the past, it could be expensive to order interesting checks that weren't plain and boring. Now, however, if you buy them online from a safe website you can save as much as 50% off of the price that you might have paid at your local bank. It generally only takes a few days for the checks to come in the mail, too, which might be even faster than your bank could have gotten them to you. - 32194

Prevent Damage To Your Binoculars

By Bart Icles

You are busy walking through the woods, searching out unique birds. You hear their calls, and hear noise in the trees. You kneel down to get a better angle around the tree, and your binoculars swing out and smack the tree. It wasn't loud, but you hear that familiar sound of birds taking flight, and then silence. If you had been using a binocular harness, your binoculars would have stayed in place, silently.

It is not just the birds disappearing you should be worried about. It is very easy to damage a pair of binoculars out in the field when they swing around on your neck. Especially when you start wandering around in the trees and brush trying to spot an elusive bird. Your binoculars can easily swing out and brush a stick, a thorn, or other obstruction and suddenly have a nasty scratch across the lens. When you're wearing a binoculars harness, there is no swinging, the binoculars are safe against your chest, out of the way.

If you are like most bird watchers, you have two essential pieces of equipment, your binoculars and your camera. Both can be protected with the use of a binocular harness strap. It is a dual purpose strap and works great for either one. You can find straps customized for your Bushnell binoculars, or a Nikon Prostaff binocular harness. When you want to switch between your binoculars and camera, you need a safe fast way to get your binoculars out of the way. The easiest way is with the bino harness.

You should also think about the comfort and safety of your neck. You have probably experienced the neck fatigue from a full day of bird watching. The binoculars start to weigh on your neck, and the muscles tense up. A binocular harness keeps the weight on your shoulders and back, parts of your body which carry weight easily. You will finish the day of watching birds feeling great, no need to rub your neck all the way home.

It is amazing you don't see more bird watchers using a binoculars harness. They are safer, more comfortable, and protect your investment over the cheap neck strap which came with your binoculars. The small investment will increase your enjoyment of bird watching. Often, a high quality binocular harness costs less than a new book. Your day in the woods will be much more enjoyable with the addition of a harness. - 32194

Binoculars Harness - Can Your Binoculars Survive Flight?

By Bart Icles

Can binoculars land safely after flight? All bird watchers know birds land gracefully, softly, at least most of the time. On the other hand, your binoculars do not have wings or feet, when they start flying, they crash hard into the ground. You can expect scratches and fractures. With a neck strap you may have the pleasure of finding out. Bird watchers using a binoculars harness don't worry when they move, bend, and twist quickly. Their binoculars are safe in front of them through the entire motion.

Do binocular lenses survive sticks and stones? As you move around looking for birds your binoculars swing and sway at every motion on the end of the standard neck strap. One wrong move and they run into a branch or rock outcropping. The one wrong turn suddenly turns your binoculars into scrap metal and shattered glass. Your day is ruined. If you were wearing a binocular harness strap, you would still be enjoying the day, since your binoculars don't swing around uncontrolled.

Do binoculars create huge neck muscles? We all know they don't, but it feels like they should. A weekend of bird watching can leave you with sore and tense neck muscles. Your neck is not accustomed to carrying weight, and does not adjust well. When you switch to a bino harness the weight moves from your neck to your shoulders. Your shoulders are strong and ready for the action of the day.

Does the sound of your binoculars clicking around on your chest attract birds? Birds can be very sensitive to sound. Even small sounds can bring them to attention. You want to see birds moving naturally, playing, and singing. You're not looking for birds taking flight in panic. Your Nikon binoculars will rest quietly against your chest with a Nikon Prostaff binocular harness. There is no extra swing, swaying, bumping, and thumping to alert birds to your presence. You are in control of your binoculars, they are ready for action at all times.

Does a binocular harness make you look strange? Yes, they do make you look very unusual. You will need to control your smile as you are enjoying your weekend of bird watching. People don't understand you are enjoying your best weekend ever. They just think your smile is a sign of craziness. Relax, they will soon be joining you with their own harness when they discover how well a harness works. - 32194

Don't Get Caught Hanging Off A Cliff - Use A Binocular Harness

By Bart Icles

You've decided to make a big bird watching trip. You decided to head into the mountains, and do a little climbing for an extra special weekend of bird watching. You are far from the safety of the park, and the local trails. As you are climbing up the outcropping to get closer, you feeling it slipping. There is nothing you can do, the sliding has started, but suddenly comes to a halt. You stare in bewilderment, seeing your binoculars hanging from the neck strap on the edge of a cliff. If you had only been wearing a binocular harness.

Maybe the story is a little extreme, but hopefully you get the point. A neck strap is not designed to keep your binoculars safe while you climb, and move about in more than simple ways. If you want to really see special birds you sometimes need to get out of the park. You will need to know you can keep your binoculars safely out of the way, but close at hand for watching birds when you locate them.

Putting your binoculars away in a backpack is not going to work. Birds don't wait while you unpack. They take flight and are gone before you have a chance to see them. Using a Nikon Prostaff binocular harness, or one for your Bushnell optics lets you keep your binoculars safely out of the way, but have instant access.

There is one other big issue which comes into play when you head out for a little more extreme bird watching, neck fatigue. You already feel it in the park after a full day. Your neck starts aching from carrying the binoculars on a strap. If you use a binocular harness strap your neck is not being used to carry the weight, the responsibility moves to your powerful shoulders and back. Whether you are in the park, or in the mountains, you should enjoy the entire day without strain. A bino harness will make sure it is possible.

The worst part of a neck strap is the constant swinging of your binoculars. This is troublesome enough in a park, but out on a trail it is simply unsafe. It increases the opportunities to get hung up on obstacles either damaging your binoculars or hurting yourself. A binoculars harness keeps everything out of the way, with no swinging. You will be amazed at the difference. You won't get caught watching your binoculars hanging from a cliff, waiting for the tumble. - 32194

How A Nikon Prostaff Binocular Harness Can Increase Your Enjoyment

By Bart Icles

If you own a set of Nikon Prostaff Binoculars, or a Prostaff rangefinder, you have made a substantial investment. The Nikon Prostaff waterproof binoculars are great for a hunter, avoiding moisture penetrating the housing and fogging your view. The other big hazard, and pain in use, to your Nikon investment is probably right around your neck, the strap. Once you have tried a good Nikon Prostaff binocular harness, you'll wonder why you waited so long.

A standard binocular strap is going to let them swing right down in front of you. Obscuring your view as you try to pick something up off the ground.

With a bino harness, they will stay almost motionless against your chest, out of the way, but ready for action. Many outdoorsmen will remove their binoculars while walking and put them in a backpack instead of dealing with them. Obviously, they don't do you much good in the backpack. A binoculars harness is very multi-purpose. You can use it for your binoculars, rangefinder, or camera. When you are scouting out an area, before the season opens, it is a great idea to take some pictures of hot areas of action. It will help you find them quicker when the season begins. Cameras are every bit as annoying wearing around your neck as the binoculars.

The binocular harness strap will keep any of your optical gear right where you want it, up front, out of the way, and secure. The harness is very adjustable, allowing you to position everything as snug or loose as you like. It is very simple to pull the binoculars up to your eyes for viewing, and when you are finished, you will know they are safely out of the way.

Using a good fitting binocular harness will increase your enjoyment of days outside. With the added comfort, and confidence your gear is safe. - 32194

The Smooth And High-Quality Alpen Spotting Scope

By Dale Smith

Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts who depend on a good scope to help them accomplish their tasks know that performance and quality shows in an Alpen spotting scope under just about every assessment criteria. When talk turns to this device -- which comes in extremely handy when it comes to a wide variety of outdoor hunting activities -- talk also seems to turn to the Alpen company and the scopes it makes for an array of reasons, it seems.

Most hunters and outdoor enthusiasts such as bird watchers look for a number of qualities that a good scope needs to have. To begin with, hunters feel that one of these devices needs to have adequate capability to take in all available light and put it to best available use. This is crucial in low-light conditions, and an Alpen scope featuring wide objectives (the front lenses) do this job with seeming ease.

As well, excellent spotting scopes are also waterproof and can keep moisture and water buildup from accruing on their insides effectively. Most hunters are the first to point out that a scope unable to do so -- or which fogs up at the first drop in temperature -- probably isn't worth very much in the long run, either in terms of actual money paid for it or for the performance which it fails to deliver.

Spotting scopes also need to be easy to carry or at least easy to put into a backpack or rucksack and cart around. Alpen has been recognized as a leader in this regard, and many military users of its line of scopes remark frequently about its ease of transport, in addition to the large objective lenses (coated to protect against lasers or solar disturbances)and 45-degree angle of view eyepieces and the speedy zoom and pan ability the lenses feature.

No scope is going to be much worth purchasing, though, if it doesn't come with all-weather capability and performance. Serious spotting scopes can do all of this with ease because their makers have devoted adequate resources to their manufacture, which then leads to excellent performance across a wide range of assessment criteria. This includes ergonomics and optical construction, both of which any Alpen scope has been certified to provide.

Alpen brings this quality to a variety of sizes and price ranges when it comes to their own scopes, it appears. Even the so-called "value priced" scopes feature shock resistance and are waterproof, which is something other manufacturers scopes at the lower performance levels don't promise. Most are also nitrogen-filled, as well. The gas helps to prevent fogging and moisture buildup, which is crucial in a good scope.

Anybody considering stepping up to a quality spotting scope needs to look for certain attributes when it comes to these devices. For one, it should feature good magnification ability. At the least, go for the maximum performance allowed by the budget. It should be waterproof or there's not much use to purchasing it. Lastly, look for wide objective lenses so that it can "see" well in low-light conditions.

If an Alpen spotting scope is in the future, take the time to conduct a little online research first of all. Learn how scopes are classed (by their magnification and field of view along with angle of view capabilities) and then learn about the qualities one will need most in the scope to be purchased (shock-proof is good, as well as being powerful enough). When that happens, there's little chance of being stuck with an under-performing scope. - 32194

By Bart Icles

Hunting is not a an activity where you sit around all day waiting. You check out tracks on the ground. You look over hills and brush looking for your game. If you are deer hunting, you use your binoculars to scan the horizon for signs of movement. When you are duck hunting you search the sky for incoming flocks. You are always bringing your binoculars to your eyes, and putting them down again. Can a binocular harness help with the action?

A binoculars harness helps keep your binoculars in the perfect location for fast viewing. You need the instant access to catch sight of a big buck walking over a hill top, or through the distant trees. Binoculars in a case off to the side do you no good. They need to be ready to grab.

Your bino harness stops the annoying pain in the neck your binoculars neck strap causes. Get the weight down on your shoulders and back where it belongs. With the ability to adjust the straps to fit you perfectly, you'll be comfortable whether you are in the duck blind, in a deer stand, or hiking through a field.

When you are checking out your favorite hunting spots, you are probably up and down, checking dung, footprints, and other signs of activity. When you are using a neckstrap for your binoculars you will also be dealing with moving them out of your way. Have you ever done the old, put them on your back trick, to get the binoculars out of the way. Why not use a binocular harness strap and keep them out of the way? Do Binocular Harness Owners Need to Buy New Binoculars?

By Bart Icles

What is the biggest fault of owning a binocular harness? You don't need new binoculars every couple years. Here's the way your buddies using only a binoculars neck strap justify their new purchase to their wife.

1. "Honey, You can't wear the binoculars in the tree stand all day. It is uncomfortable and gets in the way. It was an accident, they just fell." Hopefully their wives don't learn about a binocular harness strap. They would know you can comfortably wear your binoculars all day.

2. "Really honey, I forgot they were around my neck when I bent over to grab the duck out of the water." Not a good excuse if you own a binoculars harness. Your binoculars are always up against your chest and will not slip into the water.

3. "I never thought the binoculars would flip off the ATV seat." When you are using an uncomfortable neck strap, you take off your binoculars. With a bino harness, you wear the binoculars from the sunrise, until the hunt is over. Your neck is always comfortable. The binoculars are out of the way, and you are not fighting the swinging binoculars.

4. "You will never believe what happened. I was just walking down the trail when my Nikon binoculars swung to the side crashing through the thorns, the lenses are covered in scratches." When you use a binocular harness you are still stuck with your old binoculars. Your binoculars are still safely tucked against your chest, ready for the day.

5. "Honey, it happened again." By this time your wife is probably getting a bit angry about your damaging binoculars every year. She may even be starting to search for a binocular harness for you.

Your binoculars have helped you spot deer, turkeys, pheasant, and other game. Don't you want to keep your trusted tool intact and enjoy success for a few more years? With a binoculars harness you can use the money you are saving for shells, a new gun, or even an extra hunting trip.

When you're ready to upgrade your binoculars, make it because you want better quality, more features, and longer distance viewing. You've earned it by protecting your binoculars for years. Just make sure to add a new binoculars harness to your purchase, then you can hand down the old binoculars to your child, it is still in great shape. - 32194

Bird Watching is a Pain in the Neck Without a Binocular Harness

By Bart Icles

It is the right season of the year. You know they are migrating through your area. You also know you may be out in the countryside all day trying to spot those elusive migratory birds. As you hike around the area, you realize the sport you love is becoming a real pain in the neck. Your binoculars strap has been rubbing, and pulling on your neck all day long. The trip is still worth it. It is not the fault of the binoculars or your techniques, it all due to the poor design of the strap. Your neck would feel great if you were using a binocular harness.

A binoculars harness takes the weight off your neck and distributes it to your shoulders and back. Parts of your body which were designed to bear weight. The binoculars will no longer be swinging back and forth, since they are being supported efficiently with four points of support. Your hike will be easier and more comfortable with a bino harness.

Many birdwatchers will put the binoculars back in their case when they don't have an immediate need to use them. The biggest threat most times is caused by the strap. It feels insecure because the binoculars are always bumping and swinging around. It is insecure, because it would be easy to swing them into a branch and end up with a scratched or broken lens. Using a binocular harness strap keeps your optics nearly motionless, pulled up against your body. They won't be swinging around and getting bumped.

Something a birdwatcher needs to consider is the motion and sound from swinging binoculars. Birds can be fidgety. They are watching and listening for any signs of a predator. Your swinging binoculars could help signal an escape response, and suddenly your hopes of observation are gone. You can minimize the movement of your Nikon binoculars with a good quality Nikon Prostaff binocular harness. Just adjust the harness properly and you'll have very little extra movement while you position yourself for viewing.

If you extend your birdwatching into photography, your binoculars harness can double as a very effective harness for your camera. It will be held just as securely, with minimal motion. When you are serious about birdwatching you want a harness to make your day more enjoyable and fun. Having your binoculars or camera always ready is going to increase your opportunity for great sightings. - 32194

A Binocular Harness Can Save Your Neck

By Bart Icles

There he was hanging from the tree. The neck strap had caught on a branch as he fell. It snapped his fall to a sudden stop. His body slammed into the tree, swinging from the strap. Whew, good thing "he" is only your $300 Nikon binoculars. It is too bad the binoculars are broken. The good news, it wasn't around your neck. Why did you take them off anyway? Was your neck sore? Were the binoculars in your way again? With a Nikon Prostaff binocular harness, both you and the binoculars would have survived the day.

How many of us have removed our binoculars and either laid them down, or hung them from an outcropping on the tree? Admit it, you have probably done it. A neck strap is not very comfortable. The binoculars get in the way when you lean over to grab your thermos. Once you get frustrated dealing with them, you take them off. When you are wearing a properly adjusted binoculars harness you would just wear the binoculars all day. They would be comfortable. The binoculars would stay out of the way. No need to look for that "safe" hanger for your binoculars.

While you were in the tree, did you see the 10-point buck on the horizon? If you binoculars are hanging from the tree, or sitting on the stand, probably not. If they were hanging on your binocular harness strap you would have quick access, and would have seen the buck.

Using a bino harness is not just about convenience and comfort, it really can be an issue of safety. There is less opportunity to get your strap caught on an obstacle when it is remains safely against your body. With a neck strap you have a loose swinging strap hunting for a place to get caught. Most times the strap just gets in the way, but even that is a safety concern. When you are climbing into a tree stand you do not need anything impeding your climb. The binoculars on a harness are out of the way, and your hands and arms are free for the climb.

You remember how you loved using your binoculars when you first bought them. Then after a few outings you started mumbling about them being a hassle to haul around. You can have the old feeling back when you keep them in the right place, and ready for action. No more binoculars flying from trees, only safe, enjoyable spotting of game on the move. - 32194
